Thinking it’s a typo? Nope, Galentine’s Day is a thing.

According to Cosmo Magazine, It was created by a fictional character: Leslie Knope of Parks and Recreation. In 2010, the second season of Parks and Rec included an episode called “Galentine’s Day,” in which Leslie gathers a group of her closest gal pals for a brunch of waffles and love. “Every February 13, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style,” Leslie says in the episode. “Ladies celebrating ladies.”

If you’re hosting a ladies brunch, like Leslie and not sure what to serve, here are some great options:

Mimosa Bar

Choosing a classic prosecco base, like our Lola Secco, or our Lola Cabernet France Rosé for a hint of strawberry, you can add a variety of juices or garish to the buffet and let your gals go wild with building their own.

We love freshly squeezed blood orange juice, a dry cranberry, some fresh fruit and maybe be little candy on the side.

Don’t forget to add a few bottles of sparkling water too. That way you have a fantastic non-alcohol bevie for your friends too.

Ready to Eat – What to Pair

Galentine's Day brunch with flowers and pastries.

So you’re a pro and want to show off your mad cooking skills by whipping up a classic like Eggs Benedict for your besties. You’ve got options! The classic pairing of prosecco always works. As does a rosé, our classic Lola. For a non-sparkling option a slightly sweet riesling pairs perfectly.

A good rule is that if you’re pairing a wine with brunch foods that include eggs, the trick is to pair it with the dominant flavour. Bacon pairs well with Pinot Noir. Salmon works with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. And if you’re adding steak, Cabernet Sauvignon or Shiraz.

Sticking to the original and choosing to serve waffles? Follow the egg rule and stick with the dominant flavour of the topping.

Don’t Forget

Croissants, jams, jellies, a fruit plate, flowers and of course, don’t forget the chocolate.

However you choose to celebrate Galentine’s or Valentine’s or any special occasion, remember  it’s the good people around the table that are the best pairing.
