Windsor Pride Community
Incorporated in 2006, WPC is a charitable organization aiming to create a culture of belonging for Windsor-Essex’s 2SLGBTQIA people and their families, allies, employers and educators through education, empowerment and support programs and services.
WPC delivers corporate training, curates events, runs workshops, produces research, hosts community and social and peer support groups, shares information to – and makes referrals for – clients and service providers, and nourishes our community’s mental health and wellness.
Their mission is simple. Educate the community, support the Windsor-Essex 2SLGBTQ+ community and empower the individual.
Pride Community
Pride Day officially began being being recognized on June 27, 1970 in Chicago. June 28, 1970 in Los Angeles, New York City, and San Francisco.
In Canada, “Pride Week 1973 was a national LGBT rights event held in August 1973 in several Canadian cities, including Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Saskatoon and Winnipeg. Programming included an art festival, a dance, picnic, a screening of a documentary and a rally for gay rights that occurred in all the participating cities.” – Queer Events.
