Light, refreshing, dry or semisweet rosès can be very diverse in flavour and style and we admit, we are smitten with them all. Here at Pelee Island winery, we offer a variety of styles so we’ve made a handy guide to help you choose the perfect Pelee Island Rosè for you. All of our rosès are made with 100% VQA Ontario grapes and through certified sustainable winemaking practices.
Rosè can be made in three different ways:
Short Maceration – Black grapes are crushed and left with the skins to extract colour and tannin. The resulting colour and flavour will be dependent on the winemaker’s style and preference.
Direct Pressing – Black Grapes are crushed and pressed the same way as white wine. This extracts a little colour from the skins, with very little tannin, and results in a pale rosè.
Blending – A small quantity of red wine is added to white wine to produce a rosè with the resulting colour and flavour being dependent on the winemaker’s style and preference.
Rosès rarely spend time in oak barrels. They are meant to be enjoyed cold and young, so there is no need to cellar.
Pelee Island Winery Rosés

This blush sparkling wine is made using 100% Ontario Grapes with short maceration. It is then put through a Charmat method secondary fermentation, creating delicious, delicate bubbles. This off-dry wine has hints of strawberry and blood orange flavours. It’s available in a 750ml bottle and, as of Spring 2020, now comes in a 250ml can for $5.45.
FOOD PAIRING – Beet risotto, puff pastry tomato tart, cranberry brie bites, or strawberry tarts.

Lola Cabernet Franc Rosé

This 100% island-sourced Cabernet Franc is a true representation of Pelee Island’s unique terroir. With its luminous pink colour coming from short maceration, this wine has a stylish appearance which reflects its taste. The Cabernet Franc grapes benefit from the warm lake breeze off the Pelee Island coast, where they absorb a fragrance of wild flowers and wild strawberries.
FOOD PAIRING – Grilled seafood or chicken souvlaki, Indian eggplant curry, roasted vegetable salad.
RECIPE RECOMMENDATION – Greek Chicken Souvlaki with Tzatziki
Pelee Pink VQA Rosé

This tangy rosé made with a short maceration method is appealing for its raspberry and lemon peel flavours, which linger on an off-dry finish. A medium-bodied wine with a good concentration, fine acidity and length.
FOOD PAIRING – BBQ chicken with spicy sauce, dark chocolate or seared tuna, root vegetable tagine.

100% Pelee Island sourced Pinot Noir and Auxerrois are blended for a sparkling wine made with the direct pressing Rosé method and charmat secondary fermentation creating a lovely cherry and lemon bouquet. This bubbly, pink wine is subtle yet complicated and sophisticated. A connoisseur’s favourite, it’s clean and refreshing enough to be appreciated by all.
FOOD PAIRING – Creamy sun-dried tomato fettuccine with shrimp, prosciutto wrapped parmesan chicken, raspberry almond tart.
