Considered as one of Canada's winemaking pioneers, Walter Schmoranz was born in Ruedesheim Germany; one of the world's finest winemaking regions. In 1985, he joined Pelee Island Winery where his experience and skills have led to Pelee Island Winery winning hundreds of awards around the world, most notably for our 2002 Cabernet Franc Ice Wine - winner of the Citadelle de France Gold Medal. Walter currently sits on the board of the VQA and heads several committees at the Wine Council of Ontario.

Martin was born and raised in Eltville Germany. The values instilled in him by his family included a strong work ethic and a genuine appreciation for the natural environment that surrounded him, attributes which continue to define Martin today. In 1996 Martin moved to Canada directly after graduating from the Rheingau Institute of Winemaking in Germany to begin his winemaking career with Pelee Island Winery as Assistant Winemaker to Walter Schmoranz. Over the years he worked his way up to Winemaster and oversees the day to day winemaking operations and is committed to producing high-quality wines for Pelee Island Winery.
