WALTER SCHMORANZ - WINEMASTER & PRESIDENT

Born in Ruedesheim, Germany, Walter developed his skills in the Rheingau, one of the world’s finest winemaking regions. In 1985, he joined Pelee Island Winery and is considered one of Canada’s winemaking pioneers. His experience and skill have lead to Pelee Island winning hundreds of awards around the world, most notably for the 2002 Cabernet Franc Ice Wine, winner of the Citadelle de France Gold Medal. Walter currently sits on the board of the VQA and heads several committees at the Wine Council of Ontario.

MARTIN JANZ - WINEMAKER

One of Ontario’s great young winemaking stars, Martin is highly respected for his consistency and dedication towards making the finest wines from Pelee’s top vineyards. Born in Eltville, Germany, Martin came directly from the Rheingau Institute of winemaking in 1996 to assist Walter with winemaking duties.

JEFF KAH - WINEMAKER

Born in Ottawa in 1982, and one of Canada's youngest winemakers, Jeff Kah brings an enthusiastic and liberal approach to the winemaking trio at Pelee Island. A graduate of the Niagara Oenology program in 2004 (Honours) Jeff's studies included winemaking, sensory evaluation, vineyard management, marketing and sales. With a healthy thirst for experience, he has worked vintages in Europe, and the United States and worked with Pelee Island for 5+ years.

Now living in Kingsville, Jeff's passion lies in his ability to express his creativity through winemaking and we are delighted to have him on our winemaking team.
